How to Add a Watermark to a PDF
"DRAFT" stamped across a document, a company logo watermarked into every page of a report, "CONFIDENTIAL" repeated diagonally over a contract before it goes out for review — a watermark is a quick way to make a document's status obvious at a glance, without changing its actual content.
Text or image
A watermark can be either text you type in — like "CONFIDENTIAL" or "DRAFT" — or an image you upload, such as a logo. Text is faster for a one-off label; an image watermark is what you'd use for consistent branding across a set of documents.
How to add a watermark
- Open the Add Watermark tool and upload your PDF.
- Choose text or image, and enter your text or upload the image you want stamped on the pages.
- Apply the watermark.
- Download the watermarked PDF.
What a watermark doesn't do
A watermark is a visible marker, not a security measure. It doesn't stop someone from reading, copying, or forwarding the document — it just makes the document's status or origin obvious to anyone looking at it. If you actually need to restrict who can open a file, that's what a password does, not a watermark.
